Welcome to Unit 3.1 Plate Tectonics!
Specification:
2.1 Plate tectonics Candidates should be able to: • Describe the general distribution of fold mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes and explain how this distribution is related to movements at plate boundaries. • Show a basic understanding of plate tectonics, describing the global pattern of plates, their structure, and be aware of plate movements and their effects – constructive (plates moving away from each other), destructive (subduction) (plates moving towards each other) and conservative (plates sliding past each other). • Demonstrate an understanding of the main features of volcanoes (and their eruptions) and earthquakes. |

Lesson 3: An earthquake in an MEDC!
We will be studying and creating a case study on the Japanese Earthquake in 2011 and explaining the causes and effects. See the PPT below for tasks from the lesson.

Lesson 4: An earthquake in an LEDC!
Haiti - 2010. We will be learning about the Earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010 and exploring the effects of the quake on an LEDC in comparison to an MEDC. The videos to the right can give you some extra back ground information for/after the lesson.
Homework: Due Tuesday 11th February
1) You need to use you textbook in order to complete read pages 105 - 108 and then do the questions on page 108. 2) Write an answer to the 7 mark exam question below making sure you use the mark scheme provided to get top marks. Lesson 5: Volcanoes!
This lesson you will have completed a booklet as an introduction to volcanoes and volcanic eruptions. Now we must study a volcanic ewruption in an LEDC and a volcanic eruption in an MEDC and then compare the two.
Task 1: LEDC eruption research and case study
You will be allocated a case study by me and you must prepare a presentation for the class all about this eruption. See resources and links for each case study to the right
